Still much to do: OSSTF President tells McGuinty government

TORONTO, March 11 /CNW/ - In her address to more than 600 delegates of the annual meeting of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF), President Rhonda Kimberley-Young told the McGuinty government that despite some positive changes in education there is much left to do. The conference is being held at the Sheraton on the Falls in Niagara Falls, ON from Saturday March 11 to 13.
"The government has made a commitment to reverse much of the damage and improve Ontario's education system. Dalton McGuinty has said he wants to be known as the education premier. We continue to point the Liberal government in the direction that would help the government and the Premier achieve their objective," said Kimberley-Young.
"Whether we are talking about the delivery of special education programs, ensuring sufficient numbers of support staff in schools, addressing the underfunding of adult education, reforming curriculum, or improving literacy by focussing on pedagogy instead of politics, there is still much to achieve to improve education," she said.
Adding, "More students graduating from high school in Ontario means a more vibrant economy and a better society. OSSTF teachers and support staff are ready to make Ontario the best education system in the world. We hope to work collaboratively with this government and other partners in education to promote and build on student success," she concluded.

OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 50,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational
assistants, continuing education instructors, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, attendance counsellors, and many others in education.
